High Protein
High Protein
If you’re in cancer treatment, chances are strong that your doctor has told you to eat “plenty” of high protein foods. Why is that? How much is “plenty”? How can I eat “plenty” when I don’t feel like eating at all? Not all protein is created equal – some types are helpful while others may have contributed to your illness in the first place. Follow our blog to learn the best sources for a high protein intake during cancer treatment and beyond.
If your doctor has recommended you eat “plenty” of protein but didn’t tell you how much that may be, you may want to schedule an appointment with his or her Nutritionist/Dietician. Until then, here are some general guidelines:
For a “petite” person, a high protein diet should include 60- 80 grams of protein per day.
For a ” large” person, ‘high protein’ is equivalent to approximately 80-150 grams of protein per day.
That’s a lot of protein! And if you’ve read the Plant Based Foods information on this site, you know it’s important to get at least 80% of that protein from plant based sources, not meat or dairy.
